Literate Chinese for Teachers & Schools
Any Chinese teacher can get 30 free premium codes for their students. No pilot paperwork, no sales call, no credit card — email us your school and class size, and we'll send a redemption code pack for your classroom, free for a full semester.
Why teachers use Literate Chinese
- Reading at every student's level. 600+ graded stories — from 50-character absolute-beginner tales to advanced serials — each scored against the characters a student actually knows, so every student reads something they can finish.
- Flashcards and reading in one loop. Words students look up while reading feed their spaced-repetition deck automatically; words they master unlock harder stories. No separate flashcard app to manage.
- Both Mandarins, both scripts. Simplified and Traditional, pinyin and zhuyin, Mainland and Taiwan audio for every story — one app works for immersion programs, heritage classrooms, and Taiwan-track schools alike.
- Vocabulary lists that match your curriculum. HSK, TOCFL, and AP-aligned lists built in, plus custom lists you can build for your own textbook units.
- Audio for everything. Every word, sentence, and story has native-speaker-quality audio in Mainland and Taiwan accents.
How the codes work
- Email us with your school or program name and roughly how many students you have (up to 30 codes per class; more classes, more codes — just ask).
- We send you a redemption link and code for your class within a day or two.
- Students redeem on their iPhone or iPad in about 30 seconds — no payment info required, and access simply ends after the semester unless they choose to continue.
Android classroom? Email us — we handle Android access manually for now.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free? What's the catch?
Really free, no catch. We're a small independent app (built by one developer and former Du Chinese head of marketing) and we'd rather win the next generation of Chinese learners than spend that money on ads. Students keep their vocabulary progress forever on the free tier even after the premium period ends.
Do students need accounts?
An account is optional but recommended — it backs up their vocabulary bank and progress across devices. Sign-in works with email, Google, or Apple.
Can I track my students' progress?
There's no teacher dashboard yet — students can show their in-app stats (characters known, streaks, stories completed), and many teachers use those for weekly check-ins. A classroom view is on our roadmap; teacher feedback shapes it, so tell us what you'd want.
What levels does it cover?
Absolute beginner (first 50 characters) through advanced (native-level adapted classics and news). Stories are matched to each student's personal vocabulary, not just a fixed level tag.
