Rhetorical questions with 难道

难道 + … + (吗)?  ·  Traditional: 難道 + … + (嗎)?

难道 (nándào) turns a sentence into a "don't tell me…" rhetorical question: 难道你不知道吗?"Don't tell me you didn't know?!" You're not asking for information — you already believe the answer and you're expressing disbelief.

It usually wraps up with 吗, and the sentence must sound like a question. Note the flip: 难道 + a NEGATIVE means "surely it IS so" (难道你不想去吗?= surely you want to go).
