Chapter 2: Apprenticeship and Skill Training

孙悟空sūn wù kōng当上dāng shàng大王dà wáng，天天tiān tiān吃chī果子guǒ zi玩耍wán shuǎ。After becoming king, Sun Wukong spent his days eating fruit and playing.可kě有yǒu一天yī tiān，他tā忽然hū rán难过nán guò：“要是yào shi老了lǎo le死了sǐ le怎么办zěn me bàn？”But one day, he suddenly felt sad: 'What if I grow old and die?'

老猴子lǎo hóu zi说shuō：“听说tīng shuō神仙shén xiān能néng长生cháng shēng不老bù lǎo！”The old monkey said, 'I heard that immortals can live forever and never grow old!'孙悟空sūn wù kōng立刻lì kè扎zhā个gè木筏mù fá，漂洋过海piāo yáng guò hǎi找zhǎo神仙shén xiān去了qù le。Sun Wukong immediately built a wooden raft and sailed across the sea to find immortals.

他tā找到zhǎo dào菩提祖师pú tí zǔ shī，跪着guì zhe磕头kē tóu：“师父shī fu教jiāo我wǒ长生cháng shēng吧ba！”He found Master Bodhi and knelt, kowtowing: 'Master, teach me immortality!'祖师zǔ shī敲qiāo他tā脑袋nǎo dài三下sān xià，背手bēi shǒu走了zǒu le。The Master tapped him on the head three times, then walked away with his hands behind his back.半夜三更bàn yè sān gēng，孙悟空sūn wù kōng溜进liū jìn师父shī fu房间fáng jiān——原来yuán lái这zhè是shì暗号àn hào！In the dead of night, Sun Wukong slipped into his master’s room—this was the secret signal!

祖师zǔ shī教jiāo他tā七十二变qī shí èr biàn和hé筋斗云jīn dǒu yún。The Master taught him the Seventy-Two Transformations and the Cloud Somersault.孙悟空sūn wù kōng学会xué huì后hòu，翻个fān gè跟头gēn tóu“咻xiū”地de飞fēi回huí花果山huā guǒ shān。After mastering them, Sun Wukong flipped and with a 'shoo' flew back to Flower-Fruit Mountain.得意地dé yì de喊hǎn：“孩儿们hái ér men，老孙lǎo sūn回来huí lái啦la！”He exclaimed proudly, 'Children, Old Sun is back!'
